Colclough China violets design #6837 teacup and saucer - vintage mark
2-3/8" tall cup and saucer in the unnamed pattern number 6837 from
Colclough China
. This particular example has a vintage, pre-1990s bottom mark to both pieces.
The design is on the
"footed plain"
style cup with a ring of violets and greenery around the upper shoulder of the cup, and around the perimeter of the saucer. Both have gold trim on the outside rims that are showing a bit of wear. But the wear is quite uniform so it very much has a look of "it's supposed to be that way."
The cup also has a gold ring around in interior rim of the body, and around the foot. There is no secondary ring on the saucer.
Of interest is what looks to be a glob of clear glue (it's probably glaze) at the top of the cup's handle. I included a close up of this in our photos. I see no signs of breaks or repairs, so I'm wondering if this is something there from the initial firing of the cup. It's not very visible until close examination.
Condition Notes:
Fine estate condition with minor gold loss around rims of cup and saucer. See full description..  The bottoms show a vintage Colclough mark in brown with the patter number in gold (indiscernible on the saucer, clear on the cup.)
